    A pretty cool fan

I headed off to race Hillingdon tonight, which is a closed circuit race and a good way to get some speed into the legs without having to do intervals out on the lonely road. Gibby won the race after Gordy and I gave him a pretty solid lead out, but that wasn’t the highlight of the day…

Sitting in the team car before the race a young girl and her old man came up and started talking to us. He wanted to know how he could get a pink team cap for his little girl, so I gave here the one I was wearing which was she was stoked with. Like anytime we give a cap to a fan we make sure they cheer for us while we are racing. The girl, whose name was Amy, was 7 and it turns out that she rides but only a mountain bike because she is too small still to ride a roadie.

Anyway they walk away only to come back 5 minutes later with a pen and she wanted us to sign the cap for her which we did without any dramas and you could see her smile getting bigger and bigger. So the dad then wanted to get a photo of us with here, no problems. Garry, Simon and Tony stop reading here…

So we get Amy up on the bonnet of the team car and have a couple of photos which should turn out pretty cool. (note to Simon Barnes…it was her idea to stand on the car, not ours and you cant really tell a 7 year old off! ) I told the Dad to send in the photo to the team site www.plowmancravenevanscycles.co.uk and enter the fans competition.

When they left it did cross my mind that maybe the dad wanted the cap more, so if your Amy’s dad send us an email and I’ll send you one out.

Anyway those are the small things that really give you a buzz, cycling is a tough sport which requires a lot of selfishness but when you make a young fan happy it really puts everything into perspective, makes it all worthwhile….oh and winning helps also.
